Most people experience no or mild side effects:
Mild (Common)

Serious (Very Rare)
Very rare allergic reactions. Discuss with our team if you have egg allergies or immune conditions.
Who Should Not Get the Yellow Fever Vaccine?
- • Infants under 9 months
- • People with severe egg allergies
- • People with compromised immune systems
- • Pregnant or breastfeeding women (discuss with doctor)
If you cannot receive the vaccine, we can issue a medical waiver letter.
When to Get the Yellow Fever Vaccine Before Travel
Plan to get your yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before departure. Both immune protection and your official ICVP certificate become valid exactly 10 days after the injection, and border officials in many countries will not accept a certificate dated within that window. Booking your pre-travel consultation 4–6 weeks ahead also leaves time for any other travel vaccines your itinerary requires.
Travelling on short notice? We also offer last-minute travel vaccinations — call us and we will advise what is still worthwhile before you fly.
Yellow Fever Vaccine — Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Yellow Fever vaccine to travel?
Many countries in Africa and South America require proof of Yellow Fever vaccination for entry. Some countries require it only if you are arriving from an endemic area. Peel Travel Clinic can advise you on your specific destination requirements.
How long does the Yellow Fever vaccine last?
A single dose of Yellow Fever vaccine provides lifetime protection for most travelers. The International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) is valid for the life of the person vaccinated.
Can I get my Yellow Fever certificate the same day?
Yes. As a designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, Peel Travel Clinic issues the official ICVP certificate immediately after vaccination at the same appointment.
What are the side effects of the Yellow Fever vaccine?
Most people experience mild side effects such as soreness at the injection site, low-grade fever, or headache for a few days. Serious side effects are very rare. Our physician will review your medical history before administering the vaccine.
How much does the Yellow Fever vaccine cost?
The yellow fever vaccine is a private-pay travel vaccine and is not covered by OHIP. The fee includes the vaccine, the physician consultation, and same-day ICVP certificate issuance. For current pricing, see our vaccination fees page. We provide official receipts that you can submit to private or employer insurance plans.
How far in advance of travel should I get the Yellow Fever vaccine?
Get vaccinated at least 10 days before departure — protection and a valid International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) both take effect 10 days after the injection. Many countries will not honour the certificate before this 10-day window, so book early. If you are travelling sooner, contact us to discuss your options.
