Your Family Doctor Is Also Your Travel Doctor

Most travel clinics are staffed by nurses or physicians who have no access to your medical history. At Peel Travel Clinic, Dr. Saldanha handles both your routine family health and your travel health — meaning your pre-existing conditions, medications, allergies, and immunization history are all factored in when planning your travel vaccines and prophylaxis.

No need to switch providers or carry your records to a separate clinic.

Travel Medicine — Frequently Asked Questions

What is travel medicine?

Travel medicine is a medical specialty focused on preventing and managing health risks associated with international travel. A travel medicine consultation covers destination-specific disease risks, recommended vaccines, malaria prevention, food and water safety, altitude sickness, travellers' diarrhea kits, and advice for managing pre-existing conditions abroad.

Do I need a travel health consultation before my trip?

It depends on your destination. Travelers to developed countries (Europe, US, Australia) typically don't require special vaccines beyond routine immunizations. However, travelers to South Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, or other tropical or developing regions should see a travel medicine physician. Some vaccines (e.g., yellow fever) are mandatory for entry into certain countries. A consultation ensures you are protected against destination-specific risks.

How far in advance should I book a travel health appointment?

Book your travel health consultation at least 4–6 weeks before departure. Some vaccines require multiple doses spaced weeks apart (e.g., hepatitis B, rabies pre-exposure, Japanese encephalitis). Yellow fever requires a minimum 10-day lead time before it becomes effective. Malaria prophylaxis may need to be started before departure. Last-minute bookings are accepted, but earlier is always better.

Can Dr. Saldanha manage both my family health and my travel health?

Yes. Dr. Saldanha is both a family physician and a travel medicine specialist at the same location. Registered patients benefit from a physician who already knows their complete medical history, medications, and allergies when planning travel vaccines and prophylaxis — unlike most travel clinics where you see a provider who has no access to your records.
