Immigration Medical Exam in Mississauga
Applying for Canadian permanent residence or certain visas? IRCC requires an Immigration Medical Examination (IME) completed by a designated panel physician. Dr. Saldanha is a family physician with extensive experience in comprehensive medical assessments.
What Is an Immigration Medical Examination?
IRCC requires medical examinations for most permanent residence applicants and for some temporary visa categories. The purpose is to protect public health in Canada and to assess whether an applicant's health condition could place excessive demand on health or social services.
The examination must be performed by an IRCC-designated panel physician. Results are submitted directly to IRCC's eMedical system — no paper forms are provided to the applicant to mail in.
Do not book your IME until IRCC instructs you to do so via your application portal (IRCC online account). Starting too early can result in results expiring before your application is processed.

Immigration Medical Exam — Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a panel physician for my immigration medical?
Yes. IRCC requires all immigration medical examinations (IMEs) to be completed by a designated panel physician — a doctor specifically approved by IRCC to conduct these exams. You cannot use your regular family physician unless they are an IRCC-designated panel physician. Panel physicians submit results electronically to IRCC on your behalf.
What documents should I bring to my immigration medical exam?
Bring your valid passport, your IRCC instruction letter or upfront IME letter, any vaccination records you have (childhood immunizations and adult boosters), eyeglasses or contacts if you wear them, and a list of current medications and relevant medical history. Bringing prior specialist reports or recent test results can help expedite the exam.
How long does it take for IRCC to receive my results?
Panel physicians submit results electronically to IRCC's eMedical system, typically within a few business days of your examination. You will receive a medical case number (upfront medical number) at the time of your visit. IRCC will then process your results as part of your overall application. Do not book the exam until IRCC instructs you to do so.
Does OHIP cover immigration medical exams?
No. Immigration medical examinations are not covered by OHIP. This is a private-fee service. The fee covers the physical exam, any on-site testing (urinalysis, vision), coordination with the X-ray facility, and electronic submission to IRCC. Call the clinic for current pricing.
